Rising Together: Honoring our 2023-2024 Adult Education Participants

Our Adult Education Program strives to uplift Latine women through a comprehensive array of services including GED classes, English language enrichment, trauma recovery, health education, and leadership development courses.

As the academic year ended, our Adult Education program celebrated remarkable milestones: Martha Aidé García and Erika Rodríguez, founders of the adult classroom at Barnes Elementary School in the Beaverton School District, proudly earned their GEDs.

Furthermore, eight students conquered the Social Studies GED, four mastered the Language Arts GED test, and another four excelled in the Science GED test. These achievements underscore the crucial role played by our Adult Education program in empowering Latine women within our community.

With effort and the support of the teachers at Adelante Mujeres, we can overcome obstacles to achieve our goals

Adelante’s Adult Education program for 2023-2024 began with a focus on serving latine adult women in partnership with the Hillsboro and Beaverton School Districts. Our Family Engagement Team played a vital role in supporting participants and their families. Classes were offered both in-person and virtually to accommodate flexibility and accessibility.

Here's a snapshot of our achievements from September 25, 2023, to June 30, 2024:

  • Enrollment: 192 adult women enrolled, including 58 from Beaverton, 74 from Hillsboro, 51 from Forest Grove/Cornelius, and 9 from outside Washington County.

  • Program Structure: We used a hybrid model with classes at three locations. Evening classes, like English funded by Adelante Mujeres, and Math-1 in partnership with PCC, were added to support working families.

  • New Initiatives: "Digital Skills for Life," funded by Unidos US, enhanced technology literacy among the Latine community. This initiative graduated three cohorts, integrating digital skills into daily routines. We also introduced ODOT's leadership curriculum for bike and pedestrian safety.

  • Academic Support: A new 1:1 tutoring system for GED subjects helped students achieve their goals faster.

We are deeply grateful to:

  • The entire Adult Education team, whose unwavering dedication enriches our program daily.

  • PCC, for their invaluable collaboration in making English classes possible for our participants.

  • Unidos US, whose support has empowered our community through innovative initiatives such as Digital Skills for Life.

  • METRO, for their partnership in enhancing access and opportunities for our learners.

  • The Hillsboro and Beaverton school districts, whose commitment to education transforms lives.

Most importantly, muchas gracias to all our participants for their unwavering dedication and perseverance in shaping a brighter future for themselves, their families, and our community. Sigan Adelante!
