Celebrating Bridget Cooke & Our Commitment to Latina Business Development
For the 22nd consecutive year, the Portland Business Journal’s Women of Influence Awards is honoring exceptional women who are making a difference in Oregon and Southwest Washington. This prestigious recognition celebrates leaders who drive change, foster inclusivity, and strengthen their communities. Among this year’s 31 remarkable honorees is Bridget Cooke, co-founder and Executive Director of Adelante Mujeres.
Empowering Latina Entrepreneurs
For over two decades, Bridget has championed economic and social empowerment for Latine women and families. Under her leadership, Adelante Mujeres has launched transformative initiatives, including the Microenterprise Program, which began in 2005 to support Latine farmworkers by providing education in regenerative agriculture, farm business coaching, and market access at the Forest Grove Farmers Market.
In 2008, our small business programming began when two Latinas completed their GED in our Adult Education Program and had the hopes of starting their own small business to support their families in Washington County. These participants began their small cleaning service business, named Cleaning Wizards. Their business is running strong 15 years later and is proof that when Latine women are given an equitable opportunity and the tools to advance their socioeconomic well-being, they thrive in life.
As Adelante grew, Bridget knew it was important to cultivate a team of strong Latine leaders. Together, they continue to enhance and develop Adelante Mujeres’ programs and services.
In 2020, Adelante Mujeres launched Casa Qui, a retail business incubator designed to help Latine entrepreneurs establish and sustain brick-and-mortar businesses. Through this initiative, participants gain hands-on experience in inventory management, marketing, and customer service, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge to thrive in a competitive marketplace and to further bridge gaps in economic opportunities.
A Lasting Legacy of Community Strength
Beyond business development, Bridget’s leadership has profoundly shaped the broader community. As Bridget prepares to step down from her role in 2026, her impact remains undeniable. Her dedication to listening to community needs and adapting programs accordingly has set Adelante Mujeres on a path of continued growth and transformation.
Bridget Cooke’s recognition as a Woman of Influence is well-deserved. Her unwavering commitment to empowering Latine women through education and business development has strengthened countless families and enriched the broader community. We celebrate her achievements and look forward to seeing how her legacy will inspire future generations of leaders.
