Designing Our World (DOW for short) began as a way to bridge the gap between young girls and engineering. It was a project funded by the National Science Foundation and born out of the need for more female engineers in our world; a project that sought to make this line of work one that felt more attainable and relatable to girls who will soon face the beginning of many career-related life decisions.

We debuted our brand new video at our April 22 Fiesta of Hope! Read the full blog post to watch the video! 

At the event, our supporters, staff, and participants came together to stand up for women, Latinos, and immigrants because we believe that every voice should be heard.

On January 9th, our staff, participants, and other community members packed City Hall and stood in solidarity to urge the Forest Grove City Council to designate Forest Grove a Sanctuary City.

Despite our strong advocacy efforts and overwhelming community support, the Forest Grove City Council turned down the Sanctuary City Resolution drafted by Mayor Truax with a 3-3 vote.

This means that we need your help now more than ever.

Thank you to all who joined us as we stood up for the rights of immigrants, Latinos, and women to be treated as equals in our community! 

Seeing so many allies gathered together peacefully gave us hope for the future!

The march was a great success, and it sent a message to the nation that we will not stand for hatred and injustice against women, immigrants, minorities, or any other marginalized community. 

We made our voices heard at the Women's March on Washington - Portland!

Our Adelante Mujeres staff, supporters, participants, volunteers, and allies will be marching to champion women's rights and the rights of every member of our vibrant and diverse community. This is a peaceful demonstration.

How the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus & Mary (SNJMs) helped us grow

In February of 2002, a group of twelve immigrant Latina women came together to create change in our community with the guidance of Bridget Cooke and Sister Barbara Raymond of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus & Mary (SNJMs).

Through their work with the Latino community at Centro Cultural, Bridget and Barbara found that Latina women faced very unique challenges. 

Together, they began to hold weekly meetings where these women could share their stories and dreams while developing skills. They called their group Adelante Mujeres, Spanish for “women rise up, move forward.”

As we look ahead to the new year upon us, our hearts are full of gratitude.

Because of you, Latino preschoolers are getting a strong start to their education while their moms achieve their dreams of going back to school. Latino families in our community are thriving.

Remember when you were young and dreaming of your future?  

Imagine if at the age of 13, your fate already looked bleak.

Living with violence and selling tacos had defined three generations of women in Alejandra’s family. But Alejandra was determined it would not define her. She wanted a different life for her children.

Antonio and Rosalva wanted one thing: to create a better life for their daughters. But as immigrants with little formal education and limited English skills, it was hard to financially support their family and still have time to spend with their girls.

Antonio worked long hours in farm fields and nurseries, sometimes as many as 16 hours a day. 

They knew they needed a change. And Antonio had an idea. 

We had a fantastic time at our annual Día de Muertos/Day of the Dead celebration yesterday!

We are thrilled to announce that Cristina Delgado was honored with Portland Monthly's 2016 Light A Fire Award in the category of Emerging Leader. 

Cristina works with our Chicas Youth Development program as our Family Engagement Coordinator. 

Audaddy’s hotdog cart has only grown in popularity since 2014, when owners Ryan and Crystal Audett first started selling at our Forest Grove Farmers Market.

The couple’s love for the community shines as both of their small businesses grow.  Along with owning Audaddy’s, Crystal Audett owns the local hair salon, A Door to Bliss.

“We like to say we do hotdogs and haircuts because often people will come up to the hotdog cart to make a hair appointment,” said Crystal Audett.

Pink cakes topped with strawberries, heart-shaped shortbread tarts and carefully adorned cupcakes are just some of the treats to choose from when you stop by Great British Bakery’s booth at our Forest Grove Farmers Market.
